WE OFFER THE FOLLOWING SERVICES IN THE AUCKLAND AREA.
POST NATURAL DISASTER REMEDIATION
SITE INVESTIGATION
We can provide IRATA qualified Engineering Geologists to assist Consultancies with hazard assessment, including post natural-hazard events affecting critical transport infrastructure.
Our technicians on the ropes can confirm identified or suspected areas of instability and provide additional data and advice on the constructability of site-specific remediation options being considered.
We can complement our ground truthing with UAV data capture, on request.
Services include:
Face mapping
Collection of structural data such as defect continuity and orientation
Measurements and estimates of mass
Assessment of potential failure mechanisms
Identification of ground water and drainage
Installation of monitoring equipment such as extensometers, inclinometers, piezometers and GPS data loggers
Advice on construction issues and cost estimates for site-specific remediation options.
HAZARD REMOVAL
The physical removal of rockfall hazard by hand scaling, use of airbags or drill and blast techniques is at the top of the hierarchy of controls for risk management, as it eliminates the hazard completely.
These methods can often be implemented with minimal set-up time, providing cost-effective, immediate solutions for sites where rockfall hazard exists above infrastructure or people. Scaling is often the “go to” method following a natural hazard event and can be combined with initial site assessment for temporary risk reduction before more permanent remediation options are designed and implemented.
DRILL AND BLAST
Our team of 3 qualified shot firers / CSL licence holders have extensive combined experience, totalling more than 30 years on drill and blast projects, ranging from large scale slope reshaping using high explosives to smaller projects where controlled trimming, rock breaking or benching is required.
We specialise in controlled blasting methods where accurate removal of rock and slope instability are important factors, using gas expansion cartridges with a low velocity of detonation. These methods are suitable for sensitive sites close to existing infrastructure or operations. Where necessary, we will design and install temporary blast protection to retain blast debris and control fly rock.
ROCKFALL & LANDSLIDE REMEDIATION / SLOPE STABILISATION
We are experienced in the construction and installation of proprietary rockfall mesh systems, passive rockfall and landslide barriers and attenuator systems and post-tensioned rock and ground anchor systems.
Our geotechnical team will oversee all QA requirements and provide sign-off documentation and relevant producer statements for construction, on request.
ASSET INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT
Inspections and Reporting Services
Rope Access NDT testing is widely used by industry to evaluate material or structural properties of components and systems in a non-invasive way.
We can provide:
PCN Ultrasonic (UT)
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT)
Penetrant Testing (PT)
Eddy-Current Testing (ET)
in addition to close visual inspections to document defects and maintain the integrity of your assets.
Maintenance and Construction
We can provide cost effective solutions to building or critical infrastructure maintenance needs, both commercial and residential.
Our technicians provide a range of services including, but not limited to concrete repairs, pressure washing, welding, structural repairs and waterproofing.
SAFETY MANAGEMENT
RIGGING
We can provide qualified Level 4 Advanced riggers and Dogmen with experience in structural steel and pre-cast panel erection, load rigging, heavy lifting and dogging.
Fall Arrest Systems & Rescue from Height Cover
If your project requires the rigging of a fall arrest system / rescue standby for your staff when working at height, we can provide an IRATA Level 3 / Site Safety Supervisor with the relevant experience and qualifications to complement your existing labour force.
As part of this service we will supply all relevant H & S documentation including method statements and risk assessments to fulfil your obligations as a PCBU under the HSW Act (2015) and ensure your workers are safe when working at height.
DIFFICULT ACCESS
Confined Space
We provide qualified and experienced technicians for your confined space access issues and will provide rescue cover and robust H & S systems to mitigate the risk of confined space entry to acceptable levels.
Remote, Hazardous and Difficult to Access Sites
We can provide rope access technicians with experience and qualifications for accessing mountainous and remote areas on foot or by helicopter.
UAV DATA CAPTURE
Our certified UAV pilots RPAS/UAV 102 qualified pilots support our rope access operations with initial site assessment and hazard identification in remote, difficult to access sites and provide data capture services that complement our rope access-based inspections.
CONSULTANCY
Early contractor involvement is key at all stages of a project, in order that the product chosen is both cost-effective and fit for purpose. We work closely with clients and consultancies through the whole design and build process, from conception and site investigation, through to design, construction and sign off to help find the best solution for site-specific issues.
Our experienced and qualified staff have knowledge and experience of the NZ Regulatory framework for your project and will collaborate and assist with submission of Resource Consent applications, Health & Safety documentation, risk assessments and method statements, on request.
PORTFOLIO
RESIDUE CLEAN
GATEWAY ARCHES
Date: June 2020
Client: Downer NZ
Location: Memorial Arches - Russley Rd, Christchurch
Heads Up Access were engaged by Downer NZ to clean hydrocarbon residue off the distinctive “Gateway Arches” on the intersection of Russley Rd and Memorial Avenue in Christchurch. The arches were constructed as part of the Government funded Roads of National Significance-State Highway 1/Russley Rd upgrades and marked the completion of earthquake recovery roading works in Christchurch.
Regular maintenance cleaning is required to maintain the warranty on the architecturally designed archway fairings.
The works were completed by Heads up Access at night to minimise disruption to the State Highway network, using traffic management and an EWP.
MAINTENANCE
BRIDGE INSPECTION / MAINTENANCE
Date: Nov-Dec 2018
Client: Downer / NZTA
Location: Cow Stream, State Highway 7, Hanmer Springs
Following the 2016 Kaikoura Earthquake, State Highway 7 experienced traffic volumes 4x greater than normal, due to closures of State Highway 1 on the Kaikoura coast.
Heads Up Access was engaged by Downer to inspect the bridge over Cow Stream near Hanmer Springs, to ascertain its condition after the earthquake and ensure the ongoing integrity of this important transport link between Christchurch, Picton and the West Coast.
The works scope included performing close visual inspections, documenting the current condition of the bridge (including the retrofitted bracing for seismic strengthening), pressure washing and measuring corrosion protection thickness, retrofitting steel under the deck and making any other necessary repairs identified during the course of the works.
On completion of the project, Heads Up rigged fall arrest systems and provided fall from height rescue cover for the Consultant Engineer to access the bridge for final inspection and sign off.
All the works were completed under Traffic Management with a single lane road closure to minimise disruption to the travelling public and the freight transport network.
